It cannot be said that it will cease as there are lot more things which are causing global warming and eventually temperatures increase. The forests and other areas with good greenery will generate green house gases whin inturn will have effect on these. The time taken for things to return to normal will definitely reduce when once we stop polluting and it will cease the degradation of environment.

Eventually, but no one knows how much the planet would warm before the trend reversed and no one knows how long it would take to return to normality.

Anyway, it is impossible to _stop_ generating greenhouse gasses without completely wrecking our civilization. Greenhouse gasses are generated from our fossil and bio- fuels and from agriculture.

The best we can do is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses, but people don't seem to be willing to make much effort in that direction. This is because we human beings evolved to respond to "clear and present" dangers. Global warming is not clearly caused by people and the danger it poses is going to fall on future generations, not us.
