The amount of oxygen isn't different, it is that the atmospheric pressure is lower at higher altitudes. The amount of oyygen and other atmospheric gasses(nitrogen etc..) that we absorb into our bodies depends on the pressure of the atmosphere. Basically, air is made of around 20% oxygen, regardless of where you are. If the atmospheric pressure goes down as it does as you go higher then you get 20% of a lower number. The higher the altitude, the lower the pressure (think about being at the bottom of a deep pool, versus being near the top. pressure is lower closer to the surface). Lower pressure "pushes" less air into our lung and blood. So effectively we get less oxygen.

Because it is much closer to the spot, where there is no oxigen at all.

Look, all illuminators in any plane are always shut, right?

Everest is way up high, where the atmosphere is thinner. Less atmosphere = less oxygen.
