ah...the ever-elusive question...

a lot of people have tried to answer it using logic, but nobody has really succeeded in coming up with an acceptable response.

the chicken came first.

God created the animals...not their eggs.

you may ask "well, how do you know God didn't create the eggs and they hatched from them?"

my response: if God started with their embriotic forms, then did he create a fetus that was laying in the middle of a field that grew into a cow?

i think not, baby puppy.

The egg came first. When a new species is formed. The animal's parents are two different species. For example, when you have a mutt, as in a dog, the mutt's parents are two dogs of different breeds, right? Now, my theory is, the first chicken was formed when two different species of animals reproduced and formed an egg in the female. The female layed the egg, and that egg was the first soon-to be hatched chicken.

To ask this you need to believe that life in the world has always been the same. That is, evolution didn't happen.

If you study something about evolution you will find out that the question is not a good one. You can start this in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_chicken_or_the_egg#Evolutionary_chicken
