Yes, of course it could, but the difference is, that the Pacific Ocean has a system of buoys, with the capability of sending advanced warnings in the direction a Tsunami is headed. The Indian Ocean did not have that technology in place...

Last time I was in L.A., near Manhattan Beach, I couldn't help thinking about how the area looked very susceptible to a tsunami wave. All it would take is a shift in the Tectonic plates under the ocean - like the one that hit two years ago in Asia - to cause a killer tsunami.

Yes, I think so.
On a side note, think of the tsunami California will CAUSE when it finally falls into the ocean.

It already happened in 1964 -- the Good Friday tsunami. And it can happen again.

no they couldnt, the tsunamis wouldnt even come close. since the closest ones would be in japan and they spin towards asia.

Its more likely the worst of it would hit the coast north of california, which isnt a question of if it could happen, but more of a question of WHEN it will happen.

I'm of the belief that anything's possible. Since we're used to such calm weather and are unprepared, we proll got it coming.
