Question:
Are you planning to participate in Lights Out?
Something peculiar...
2009-03-25 20:24:30 UTC
Will you turn off your lights at 8:30 PM and leave them off till 9:30 PM.

http://savannahnow.com/node/695447

From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, people from all corners of the world will turn out their lights for one hour - Earth Hour - and cast a vote for action on climate change.

The World Wildlife Federation is hoping to reach the target of 1 billion votes - participants - and present them to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference later this year in Copenhagen.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

My family will probably do it. More in a proactive act in regards to the environment and the cause of Global warming.

I will surely do it. It is just a matter of switching off for an hour. I will probably go for a walk or cycling outside.between 8.30 to 9.30 IST

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses

switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a

global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their

lights.

In 2009, India joins Earth Hour for the first time. New Delhi and Mumbai are

among 825 cities across 80 countries and territories that have pledged their

support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009. This number is growing everyday.

This "Lights Out" might be a good jester. However those who are concerned with "Global Warming" whether it is a fact or not are bringing attention to all the environmental problems.

However the major problem is continuing to be over looked.

The water on this planet has become so contaminated that in many areas all over this planet it is dangerous to drink. Since water is the source for all life this should be the top priority.

Much has been said about the temperature situation and of course billions have been spent to determine if water is on Mars when the condition of the life source here has been basically over looked and is on a rapid spiral downward.

More importance has been put on finding out if water is on distant planets than cleaning up what is necessary to sustain life here.

Evidently it will require that green slime start coming out of the water faucets before some attention is given to the problem.

Would millions of people be willing turn off their water to highlight this problem. Certainly not simply because it would not be a showy display and it's not the Buzz topic or concern.

As an engineer who works in the realm of alternative energy solutions I think global warming is a load of crock and this lights out thing is useless. While there is a trend, the trend is far less than what the media reports and the trend is back to normal from the "little ice age" rather than true warming.

Polar Bears will return to their lower populations that they held centuries ago; and armadillos will become more numerous in the US.

(some other time I'll tell you about my brilliant plan to save Polar Bears by catching the increasing number of armadillos, shipping them north, and feeding them to the bears - when you see that one TV just remember, josh came up with that!)

Remember warmer lands actually mean MORE farming and better living environments. The temperature has always been cyclical; now is no difference and isn't man made.

The only thing the lights out does is mess up power grids as suddenly there is a massive excess of power.

As an non-engineer who doesn't work in the realm of alternative energy solutions or any other irrelevant areas i think its a good idea.

besides even if global warming is a farce all the pollution pumped out of coal fired power plants has a huge impact on air quality ( that i breath) and that alone is a big enough reason to do something about it. That's a nice selfish reason for the skeptics to understand.

I dont believe in man made climate change,

Here is the thing, I have several family members who are climate scientists, And after Al gore produced his movie an inconvienient truth, they produced a movie that took apart al gores movie piece by peice, Al Gore is a Liar, and the whole global warming thing is a Carefully thought out plot to cause the people of the world to surrender their freedom and allow a new global tax, without representation.

This is a dangerous Lie that is being spread, and at it's heart is a conspearicy by certain world leaders and powers to create a new world order in which the united states surrenders it's freedom to the world government at the united nations,

The truth is that Global warming and tempature changes are natural and occour by themselves over thousands of years, And the driving factor is the sun, In earth's long history it has been way hotter than it is right now, thosands of years ago, And there were no factories and SUV'S to cause it to be that way,

Earth's tempature is governed by the sun, and sun spot activity.

In many places on earth this winter has been one of the coldest on record in hundreds of years, and interestingly enough, sun spot activity has been at an 11 year low,

Please, I beg you, dont fall prey to these liars goals to get you to believe that Global warming is man made, it is a lie, and a trap,

And you will loose your freedom if it is successfully pushed through,

not to mention, the people pushing the global warming thing will completley destroy the American economy and we will all be living in poverty if they succeede.

Dont buy into it, it's a lie, and a dangerous one at that.

ADDITIONAL EDIT:

I mentioned I have family members who are climate scientists, who produced a video showing how al gores movie is a flat out lie, They have recieved death threats for trying to put the truth out there, If the Global warming croud was right, and my family was wrong, why would pro global warming people need to threaten to kill my family

Additional edit:

I noticed earlier today that you had added me as a contact, than after I answered this question, you deleted me as a contact, Is that cause I answered this question, can you not handle the truth.

I agree with Josh- probably the only thing "Lights Out" will accomplish is an unwanted surge in the power grid.Polar bears are a very real concern to me- as this once majestic animal is often on the outskirts of our nearest city scouring the garbage dump. No air brushed pictures, smelly, stinky, and dangerous- I had the opportunty last week to see one attack a Glad bag. There is a problem -light's out won't fix it.

I don't think so. This is (sort of) the same deal as when people tried to "not buy gas for one day" to "send a message to the oil companies" as well as help with pollution.

However, if you went a month or so without using lights and replacing them with more productive sources, that could make a difference. One hour, in my opinion, won't really do anything.
